Origination

A writhing mass like broken glass
And dripping tongues with venom run
To hear it’s cries; a chorus of lies
To know it’s sight; as blind as night
Reaching out and ever without
Thriving in filth; accursed wealth

To look upon it’s form far gone
Is a mirror which like a broken switch
Still stings the mind; a thousand times
And drives insane the pure and plain
Gathering in and ever thin
Starving to feel; accursed meal

And this lair; the darkest prayer
Earth that swallows all who follows
Rivers of trash like teeth that gnash
Mountains of grief hoard light as a thief
Reaching farther and ever darker
Dying alone; accursed home

But grace the bones; the warmest tones
Selflessness lives; like a beggar that gives
Forgiveness skin keeps the blood within
Love bleach hearts; white and stark
Yet so real the only hand which feels
The breath of life You breathe inside

Every snap and tear; ever laid bare
Is the sound of creation; origination

Fire King

You’ll see me in the street with blank eyes ahead
Enjoying the breeze nowhere to rest my head
You don’t know me or what I regret
I continue to speak, though no one hears what I said
I walk through the door I’m always armed with lies
I’m always asking for more but never telling you why
I like to keep my distance; but I like to stay close
I’ll say you’ve made a difference but I'll have you know

I am the fire king, I burn everything I touch
And I lit the match, because I liked it too much

What’s in my past? In my deep, dark sea?
What broke me in half? Sir, what’ll it be?
I’ll have what I’ll have and I’ll have it the most
To know me is a trap but I’m nobody's ghost
You think this poem’s about me but maybe it’s you
You think I’m ready to see but are you ready, too?
If I’ve learned something then it’s probably this:
They always keep the warmth coming 'til it’s too hard to grip

I am the fire king, I burn everything I touch
And I lit the match, because I liked it too much

I’ve been waiting years for this fever to break
Every hidden tear, every covered mistake
I’ll tell you what you want, what’s behind the door:
I just don’t want to be cold anymore

My Shadow

You were my shadow
My brother, my friend
My prints in the snow
My mist in the wind
Where I would go
You always went
Because you were my shadow
My brother, my friend

You were my partner
You watched every step
When I pushed on farther
You went where I led
When the journey got harder
You still looked ahead
Because you were my shadow
My brother, my friend

When I was jaded
You were naive
When I was burning
You were the ease
When it was dark
You brought me some light
When I felt wrong
You saw the right
You were the lighthouse
To many a ship
Most of all mine
On this perilous trip
The years have flown by
But it was clear in the end
That I was your shadow
Your brother, your friend

Courtney-Campbell

Fading stars on the silent, suspicious water
I will teach them all to drown
I can hear that ancient, nervous laughter
But I can see the future found

White Hall

Like being tethered to the breeze
A fleeting weakness in my knees
A constant lifting of my feet
From solid ground

Like holding on to something dear
While feeling constant fear
That that thing I hold so near
Will be lost never to be found

Like giving everything I have
But always holding a little back
Always pretending to be glad
When sometimes I am unwound

Like feeling something true
But never knowing what to do
Always waiting for bad news
So afraid to hear a sound

Is this feeling that I get
This hope I wont regret
But even as my blood lets
I love having her around

Foxglove

The land that withers
Covered in snow
The hands of lovers
That part in faint glow
Desperately needed keys
That have fallen to the ground
The piano singing with ease
Lost in chaotic sound
The blind, lame horse
That today meets it's fate
The black, haunting hearse
That arrived ten minutes late
The far away songs
You wish you could hear
The man recounting wrongs
With porno and beer
The hate in a woman
For everything new
The swindler with folded hands
Who laughs in the pew
Those who can hear
Those who drown out
The end that draws near
A famine, a drought

A Summer of Fences

I love the smell of flowers
And how they sway, I could stare for hours
The stems to ants must seem like towers
Oh to be so small, would be to me great power
To be lost in such a glorious city
As the rays of the sun illuminate it's beauty
Oh to be so light as to let the wind lift me
Like a dandelion's dander's flight, spastic and free
To walk in the shade of the colorful buds
To waltz with a mantis and swim in the mud
To climb their stems, like a ladybug could
And taste the dew on the leaves like anyone would
But I come to my senses, to the real world it seems
And I wonder if the flowers can see my day dream
But they silently bask in the sun's gracious beams
I am so aware of them but they may never know me
